Background

Belcarra Community Council was formed in 1991 as a subcommittee of Belcarra Community Co-Operative Society Limited.  This was set up to respond to local needs and to take a proactive approach to all aspects of Community activities and Community development for the area.

This is a voluntary group and has representatives from all the local townlands elected on to the Committee at our Annual General Meeting.

Aims

The aim is to promote the social, cultural & economic development of the community and the utilisation of all the resources of the community.

The committee work closely with all the local organisations such as Belcarra Community Co-Op Society Ltd. About

The amount of work that has been completed in this small rural village in the West of Ireland is a testament to the time, effort and goodwill that has been extended by the community and in particular the Community Council which has driven most of the projects.

The village has achieved award winning status for its local walks, Tidy Towns Awards and in 2014 was elated to win the All Ireland Award for Pride of Place.

The works completed by Belcarra Community Council have benefited the local community and made the village a really desirable place to live and to raise a family.

They have been responsible for  many projects including the following:

Belcarra Community Lotto

Graveyard maintenance and mapping (Elmhall and Guisdian)

Riverside Walk which runs from the village to the eviction cottage
